The Womack Army Medical Center Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program began in 2015 as the only hospital medicine fellowship in the Department of Defense and the only fellowship program in the nation that teaches the full breadth of family medicine. Fellows spend two years mastering the skills and knowledge necessary for success as a hospitalist physician who specializes in inpatient medicine. The program curriculum includes Clinical Medicine, Health Care Systems, Education, Professionalism, and Research. During their training, the fellows work on the Adult Medicine Ward, the Pediatric Ward, the Intensive Care Unit, Labor and Delivery, and the Newborn Nursery. Upon completion of their training, fellows are prepared to run a hospitalist service at a teaching or rural hospital to include a small intensive care unit. They are trained to care for injured adults and children in the deployed setting.
The US Preventive Service Task Force has created a free tool that provides evidence-based recommendations for screenings and patient education. It is very easy to use and also has a mobile app.
The 2024 Army Health System Doctrine Smart Book is available on the milsuite website. CAC-login required.
